At the height of his fortune, he made 2.2 million dollars. If Darvas had invested today, that 2.2 million would be 20 million!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Before Darvas came to America he studied economics at the University of Budapest. In1951, he immigrated to the United States, where he trained with his half-sister, Julia, to be a ballroom dancer. And he was a very good dancer, touring the world by 1956.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He started investing in 1952, a ballroom dancer who had never invested in the stock market. But a Toronto nightclub couldn`t pay him in cash, so they paid him with three thousand shares of a Canadian mining company called Brilund. Two months later, the stock tripled and Darvas made a tidy profit. An investor was born.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Like anyone beginning to trade on the stock market, Darvas made his mistakes. When he started out, many of his trades were gambles. He would pick companies that were the next big thing, or that came recommended by other traders. Many of his first large trades resulted in a huge losses. But cheered on by whatever small profits he did make, Darvas began asking questions about why stocks behaved the way they did.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Realizing that even experts couldn`t predict the market, Darvas decided that he needed to acquire his own understanding. He began devouring newsletters, books, tip sheets, “hot tips”, and so-called insider information, in his quest to understand the market.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yet, despite his arsenal of knowledge, Darvas continued to lose money. In 1955, he purchased over fifty thousand dollars worth of a company called Jones and Laughlin. Jones and Laughlin had an excellent price to earnings ratio, high dividends, and was in a strong industry group. He was so confident in his analysis, that he bought most of this stock on margin. Then Jones and Laughlin began to fall.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jones and Laughlin`s price fell far enough to account for a $9,000 loss. In a desperate attempt to recoup his losses Darvas bought a stock he knew virtually nothing about. Soon it had risen to a point where he regained about half of his losses.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At this point in his career, Darvas was frustrated with his attempts at analyzing stocks. With Jones and Laughlin, he had put a value on the stock and expected the price of the stock to behave as he expected. When the stock price fell instead of climbing as expected, Darvas finally accepted that his method wasn`t working. He decided there wasn`t much worth in analyzing stocks by trying to assess their value. Annoyed with information from tip sheets, friends, so called experts, and even Wall Street maxims, he decided to shun most of these common sources.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In 1956 Darvas embarked on a two-year tour of the world to showcase his ballroom dancing. During this time he developed his famed Darvas Box method of screening stocks. Wanting to keep up on his holdings in stock he already owned and always on the lookout for new stocks, Darvas looked for ways to get American stock quotes while he traveled. This was a daunting task, but arrangements were made to obtain a copy of Barron`s or the Wall Street Journal through United States Embassies, and Brokers wired time sensitive information when needed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Without brokers, friends, or other investors to influence him, Darvas developed a method of picking stocks based solely on the stock`s price and volume. By the time he returned to New York in 1959 he had made about $500,000. After Darvas returned to New York, people who were amazed with his success began to give him “hot tips” and stock advice again. Darvas listened to them, and took huge losses on the fortune he had made.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Realizing that it was the human element in stock trading that was his downfall, Darvas sequestered himself in Paris in February of 1959. He made arrangements with his brokers to make all his trades via wire and get the day`s highs, lows and closing prices. Using very little data, and a lot of intelligence and discipline, Darvas refined his Box method of picking stocks. Within six months, he had turned a profit of two million dollars.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nicholas Darvas is regarded as one of the best traders in the history of the market. When you follow your rules you make money. Here is one discipline that can reap rewards. Read these rules before your day starts and also read the rules when your day ends.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 1: I must follow my rules.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Naturally if you develop a set of rules they are to be followed. It is human nature to want to vary or break rules and it takes discipline to continue to act in accordance with the established rules.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 2: I will never risk more than 3% of my total portfolio on any one stock trade.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are many old traders. There are many bold traders. But there are never any old bold traders. Protecting your capital base is fundamental to successful stock market trading over time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 3: I will cut my losses at 5% to 15% when I am wrong without question.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some traders have an even lower tolerance for loss. The key point here is to have set points (stop loss) within the limits of your tolerance for loss. Stay informed about the performance of you stock and stick to your stop loss point.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 4: Never set price targets.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is a style that will allow me to get the most out of rising stocks. Simply let the profits run. Realistically, I can never pick tops. Never feel a stock has risen too high too quickly. Be willing to give back a good percentage of profits in the hope of much bigger profits.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The big money is made from trading the really BIG moves that I can occasionally catch.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 5: Master one style.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Keep learning and getting better at this one method of trading. Never jump from one trading style to another. Master one style rather than become average at implementing several styles.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 6: Let price and volume be my guides.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Never listen to any opinion about the stock market or individual stocks you are considering trading or are already trading. Everything is reflected in the price and volume.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 7: Take all valid signals that show up.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Don't make excuses. If an entry signal shows up you have no excuse not to take it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 8: Never trade from intra-day data. There is always stock price variation within the course of any trading day. Relying on this data for momentum trading can lead to some wrong decisions.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rule 9: Take time out.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Successful stock trading is not solely about trading. It's also about emotional strength and physical fitness. Reduce the stress every day by taking time off the computer and working on other areas. Buy low-sell high. As simple as this concept appears to be, the vast majority of investors do the exact opposite. Your ability to consistently buy low and sell high, will determine the success, or failure, of your investments. Your rate of return is determined 100% by when you enter the stock market.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. The stock market is always right and price is the only reality in trading. If you want to make money in any market, you need to mirror what the market is doing. If the market is going down and you are long, the market is right and you are wrong. If the stock market is going up and you are short, the market is right and you are wrong.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Other things being equal, the longer you stay right with the stock market, the more money you will make. The longer you stay wrong with the stock market, the more money you will lose.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. Every market or stock that goes up will go down and most markets or stocks that have gone down, will go up. The more extreme the move up or down, the more extreme the movement in the opposite direction once the trend changes. This is also known as "the trend always changes rule."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. If you are looking for "reasons" that stocks or markets make large directional moves, you will probably never know for certain. Since we are dealing with perception of markets-not necessarily reality, you are wasting your time looking for the many reasons markets move.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A huge mistake most investors make is assuming that stock markets are rational or that they are capable of ascertaining why markets do anything. To make a profit trading, it is only necessary to know that markets are moving - not why they are moving. Stock market winners only care about direction and duration, while market losers are obsessed with the whys.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5. Stock markets generally move in advance of news or supportive fundamentals - sometimes months in advance. If you wait to invest until it is totally clear to you why a stock or a market is moving, you have to assume that others have done the same thing and you may be too late.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You need to get positioned before the largest directional trend move takes place. The market reaction to good or bad news in a bull market will be positive more often than not. The market reaction to good or bad news in a bear market will be negative more often than not.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6. The trend is your friend. Since the trend is the basis of all profit, we need long term trends to make sizeable money. The key is to know when to get aboard a trend and stick with it for a long period of time to maximize profits. Contrary to the short term perspective of most investors today, all the big money is made by catching large market moves - not by day trading or short term stock investing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;7. You must let your profits run and cut your losses quickly if you are to have any chance of being successful. Trading discipline is not a sufficient condition to make money in the markets, but it is a necessary condition. If you do not practice highly disciplined trading, you will not make money over the long term. This is a stock trading â€œsystemâ€ in itself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;8. The Efficient Market Hypothesis is fallacious and is actually a derivative of the perfect competition model of capitalism. The Efficient Market Hypothesis at root shares many of the same false premises as the perfect competition paradigm as described by a well known economist.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The perfect competition model is not based on anything that exists on this earth. Consistently profitable professional traders simply have better information - and they act on it. Most non-professionals trade strictly on emotion, and lose much more money than they earn.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The combination of superior information for some investors and the usual panic as losses mount caused by buying high and selling low for others, creates inefficient markets.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;9. Traditional technical and fundamental analysis alone may not enable you to consistently make money in the markets. The people that when they see you struggling with something will jump in and do it for you. These people give without the expectation of reward. These people give without keeping a tally of favors given and returned. These people are happier because happiness comes from giving. When you make somebody else happy by helping with a problem you become happy. Upselling may be a method of marketing that you already use in your own online business but if not, I am sure you are familiar with the process..... &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Let me give you a couple of 'real world' examples of the upselling technique: &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1. You visit your favourite burger joint (McD's, Burger King, wherever, they all use upselling). You order a burger and you are asked, 'Do you want fries with that?' Assuming you say 'yes', the next question is, 'Large?' A high percentage of people will go for this option because for some reason it is easier to say 'yes' than 'no'. You will probably then be asked if you want a drink and again, if you want it large. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;2. If burgers are not your thing, how about a visit to your local bookstore? How many times do you see the piles of 'three for two' books? Of course you can buy just one book but if you find another two that you like, you get one free so that's surely a better deal right? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Both of these are examples of upselling and as you will have worked out, upselling is quite simply a marketing method used to persuade your customers to spend more money than they had originally intended. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;However, there is more to it than just forcing a few extra dollars/pounds out of your customer's pocket. You see, for upselling to work properly, there has to be something in the deal for both parties. This means that the customer has to benefit too. Indeed, the upsell has to be attractive to the customer in order for them to even accept it. To take the book example above, it is no good offering a pile of 'three for two' books if there is only one title that is popular or a new release - they all need to be good titles that people will want, otherwise the customers will just buy the book that they were originally interested in. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;So how does upselling transfer to your Internet business? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Usually it is as easy as adding an additional 'upsell page' in between your normal ordering page and your payment page. This is especially easy with eBooks and other digital products but there is no reason why it cannot be applied to any product being sold online. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I personally use upselling on most of my websites and in a number of different ways so it is probably as easy to look at how I use upselling as this will help you to begin to apply the technique to your own website business. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I use upsells on my eBook sales by directing the customer to an upsell page after they have decided to purchase one of my products. A typical upsell will be to offer the customer the chance to purchase both the eBook that they are interested in plus one or more associated eBooks for a heavily discounted price. I ensure that the discount is considerable as this makes the deal far more attractive for the customer but involves me in no extra work if they decide to go ahead with the upsell. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;With my membership sites, the upsell is slightly different and subscribers are offered the chance to make a large saving if they opt to pay for an annual subscription rather than month by month. Again, a great deal for the buyer but no extra work for me. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Upselling is an extremely simple concept yet incredibly effective. On average, 40% of my customers opt for the upsell if it is offered and I have seen situations where as many as 70% of buyers upgrade to the upsell offer. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Remember, the key to successful upselling is to give the customer a superb deal - it isn't all about forcing that extra bit of cash out of the buyer's wallet. If you don't offer great value and quality products, your customer will end up requesting a refund. But if you DO offer them a bargain then you will have a happy customer that will buy from you again and again. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;To put a cash value on the power of upselling, just consider the following comparison for a moment..... &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;You offer a product for $20 and 100 people buy it.  Your income is $2000. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;You offer a product for $20 and again, 100 people buy it but this time buyers are offered an upsell which costs $40. 40% of buyers opt for the upsell offer. Your income is now $2800 - a 40% increase! &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;How much extra work would be involved in handling the second scenario above? None really. You are on a road to frustration and failure. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I happen to know a lot of people who joined the net race to become rich overnight (Oops! I was among them too). Website owners wanted more advertising revenue, but did not want the hassle of maintaining it over the hundreds of pages that they have, and they got Adsense. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Its a pretty simple strategy - understand what your customers want and give it to them! &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;My ex-sponsor in my old network marketing company used to say that in order for me to move their nutritional supplements, I had to teach people that supplements can prevent many hazardous illnesses. Prevention is better than cure. But here's what I learned in a few years - the majority of people are looking for cures, not prevention. Most of the people I met in Malaysia are looking for a cure to sleeping disorders, a cure for fatigue, a cure for arthritis, and so on. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Sure, it may be a noble deed to educate people about prevention, but the world does not always work that way. The majority of people look for a home based business only when they get retrenched, when they run out of savings, or when they retire. So why not make your recruitment efforts match this need? Why not develop your niche market based on this category of people? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Instead of teaching them about residual income and the power of duplication which they are not interested in, wouldn't your message be more effective if you taught them how to earn a comfortable retirement income, or how to replace their current income instead? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The point is this - as a home based entrepreneur you must understand your target market's need, and serve them well. You should focus on being the best in providing the cure, not the best in preaching about the prevention. Focus on customer needs, and they will flock to you. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;4) Are You Having Fun? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Everything about Google spells fun. But don't get me wrong. They are probably the most innovative company at the moment.  &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The fact that they can present their complicated technology in such a simple way to end-users is an act that every company can envy. Have you ever heard anyone complain about Google search being too complicated to use? Yet as an Internet marketer I can go crazy trying to understand the complexity behind the simple white page and squiggly logo. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Leave the complexity of a home based or network marketing business behind the scenes. Teach people how to have fun, while achieving goals and building their business. Show them that you are having fun yourself, and they will buy, they will join, or at least tell someone else about you, and your exciting business. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;When you're having fun, it will not seem like work at all. Everyone could use a little fun in their lives, don't you think? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;5) Focus on Your Core Competency &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Yes, this is another phrase that is thrown around in the business world, but how many entrepreneurs actually practice it? As a home based entrepreneur, you may find the need to explore other sources of income. There's nothing wrong in that, but here's the catch - don't go where the money is, especially if it's not related to what you're doing. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Many people tend to find other sources of income that is totally unrelated to their main home business. As a result of that, they become an expert in nothing, and they become the best in nothing. If you make custom furniture at home, why take a job at a fast food chain to make ends meet, when you can explore other ways to make money out of your core competency? Having woodworking workshops, writing a 'how to' book on woodworking, or even a sales job at a furniture outlet can make good sources of additional revenue, while building your name and expertise on your core competency itself. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Starting out as a search engine, Google pretty much maintained their core competency until today. When they explore other sources of revenue or develop new products, you can be pretty sure it's related to search technology. And the undisputed result of that is that there is simply no other better alternative when it comes to search and information retrieval. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Therefore, we have much to learn from the success story of Google. You will get the visitors and a dent in your pocket. But if you have a budget this can be tried. Because it also makes him a "household name"…in households from Bangor, Maine to Bangkok Thailand. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Brand recognition is the foundation of every marketing strategy. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;If you're a small business owner, YOU are your brand. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;That means you must sell yourself as well as your product or service. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Trump understands the concept, and what's why you see his brand Trump on everything. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;You've got to be willing to get name out there… Willing to say, "Hey look me!"... Ready to stand up for yourself, believe in yourself, and blow your own horn… &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Loudly and as often as possible. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Have you noticed that each episode of "The Apprentice" includes a segment devoted to a current Trump project? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This as an opportunity for "The Donald" to billboard a success story. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Week after week, he tells millions of people, "I'm a great real estate giant and here's the proof." Take a tip from "The Donald"… &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;You've got to be your own full-time marketing campaign 24 hours a day... because nobody else will! &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Especially if you're an entrepreneur. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;When you're the own of a business, especially a new business, it's kind of like being a parent. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Before your business can "talk"... before your "little one" has grown and established a reputation that literally "speaks for itself"... you need to be the "spokesperson." &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;How long will this last? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;You may not want to hear this, but the answer is -- forever. How can I adapt this concept to me and my business? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The truth is, if you can't get at least a handful of "golden nuggets" from this super-successful entrepreneur, you may be hopeless. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;What I'd like to do is share some of the key marketing insights I've learned from Donald Trump and "The Apprentice" that you, too, can use in your business. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Before we get to the marketing insights, however, there's a bigger business concept that you need to understand. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I'll give it to you the way I like best... straight... "Lok-ed and loaded" to blow your mind: &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;You have something to learn from people of any age, any background, any education, and any level of success. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The candidate on "The Apprentice" can't hold a handle to Donald Trump's success. Yet each week, they pull rabbits out of hats, rising (more or less) to meet the challenges presented to them. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Every new task makes them better in business as they evolve, refine strategies, and respond to what they're learning. There's no better formula for success than the flexibility and resilience they demonstrate. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;So don't just focus on "The Donald" for your weekly dose of marketing magic. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Keep an eye on the candidates, too! You never know who's got something to teach you. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Apprentice Marketing Lesson #1 - Too Much Is Never Enough &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Actually, "too much is never enough" was a successful slogan from the early days of MTV, but it could just as easily be the "poster child" for marketing. You can never connect with consumers too frequently. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;There's a marketing truism out there: To sell a prospect, you'll need to make repeated contact. That's why most direct mail campaigns use a minimum of three messages, why magazines put as many as five subscription forms in each issue, and why "The Donald" says the word "Trump" as many times as he can in every episode of "The Apprentice." &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Does it make a difference? Can it make "The Donald" even more successful? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Definitely. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In the 21st Century, every consumer is bombarded with advertising messages…up to 3,000 a day for some people. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;After a while, they just tune out. Or, if they don't tune-out, consumers are often so distracted that they don't really hear or see a marketing message. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;It's more effective to send three mailers to 1,000 prospects than one mailer to 3,000though the cost is the same. Another approach is a "timed" or "sequenced" campaign. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In this kind of campaign, message #1 is a teaser. #2 is the "guts" and a gift offer. #3 gives ordering instructions. The sequenced approach allows you to generate both expectations and recognition. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Prospects look forward to hearing from you. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that you need to keep hammering away at the eyes and ears of potential prospects. But the main reason for this many not be as obvious as you think... &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;By repeating your marketing message over and over, you "imbed" that message in the consumer's mind. Then, when the consumer needs what you have to offer, they'll think of you first... even if aren't actively marketing to them in the moment. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The goal is to make yourself the automatic go-to solution for a problem whenever that problem occurs. The consumer's sub-conscious will do the driving. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Apprentice Marketing Lesson #2 - Sex Sells, But Too Much Sex Repels &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The candidates chosen for "The Apprentice" are uniformly attractive, articulate, and the kind of people that most other people enjoy looking at. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The producers of the show -- including Mark Burnett who produces that other mega-hit "Survivor" -- know that sex sells on television. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Sex sells in marketing, too. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;During the second season of "The Apprentice" when "The Donald" pitted the men against the women, tasks were routinely won thanks to sex appeal... women's AND men's. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;(You may recall that the men's team used one of their attractive members to flirt with and win over a table of gay diners during a restaurant challenge.) &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;But if you weren't watching closely, you might have missed the episode where sex didn't sell -- big time... and THAT is the point of this mini-lesson. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In one of the last episodes of the second season, candidates were challenged to sell candy. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;On one team, two blonde women donned matching red leotards and flashed -- their smiles only -- at male prospects. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Sales were brisk because, as we all know, sex sells... and for most men there's nothing sexier than a leggy blonde. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The other team was struggling, so with just minutes to spare before the end of a task, one team member offered to drop her skirt as a way to convince male passersby to buy her candy. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;They bought... in droves. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;They weren't buying candy, of course, they were buying sex... just like the guy who finds a car suddenly irresistible because of the leggy swimsuit model that's advertising it at the Auto Show... and just like the guys who bought from the blonde "twins" on the other team. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The problem with the "buy my candy and you can see my buns" approach is that it was over the top. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As "The Donald" pointed out in the boardroom, the candidate wasn't selling candy... she was selling sex literally, with a candy bar bonus. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;That, my friends, is why so many marketers are referred to as prostitutes... and why the candidate who dropped her skirt was dropped from the show at the end of the task. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As "The Donald" put it so eloquently: You're fired! &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The skirt-dropping candidate was fired despite the fact that she had fulfilled her mission -- to make money. Why? By over-selling sexuality, she left a negative over-all impression. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Sex is powerful stuff…use it wisely and sparingly. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Apprentice Marketing Secret #3: Cross-Promotion &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I've talked about this concept until I am blue in the face, but I still meet prospective clients who stubbornly say, "My product is such a winner that I don't need to partner with other businesses and give away any of my profits." &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;That's insane! &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Or more delicately "No man is an island"…and no business is either. There's not a company on earth that can survive without a constant stream of qualified prospects coming through the door. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;So it doesn't matter what industry you're in or what product/service you make available, whoever you are... &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Tying your product to another popular product, service, business, or person is always a winning marketing strategy. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;"The Apprentice" has featured cross-promotions with Burger King, Pepsi, the Planet Hollywood restaurant chain, and other well-know, extremely successful businesses. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;If these super-corporations benefit from cross-promotions, doesn't it seem logical that your business can, too? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The biggest trend in high-end marketing today is film and TV cross- promotions. Ever since E.T. gave Reese's Pieces a huge boost, marketers have aggressively tried to get their products "placed" in films and television shows. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Having a good product or service is NOT enough... although it's certainly "Job 1." Quality and value bring your customers back for more. But how the heck do they do how wonderful your stuff is if they haven't even bought from you yet? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In order to make a sale, you need someone you can sell to.
